Because I loved apple desserts so much as a kid, I went to the library religiously to learn how to bake, so I could then make some whenever I wanted 😂. Apple pies were my first love and still are to this day 🥰. Added some five spice to the filling, which totally adjusted the flavor of the tart in a truly amazing way!

Instructions

Add sliced apples to a bowl and mix with lemon juice, sugar, and five spice powder.

Let it marinate for 10-15 mins on the side - you want the slices to soften and let go of some of its juices! 

Pour out as much of the juice as you can and heat to boiling over a medium flame. 

Add rum and reduce by half.

Add butter at the very end and add 3/4 of the juice to the apple mix. 

Place pastry dough into your tart pan and then add apple slices in a circle, starting at the edges. Make sure to place them curved side up.

Dab on remaining juice mixture to the apples, and brush dough with egg wash. 

Bake for 1 hour at 375. 

Enjoy with ice cream!
